Volunteer

"Our task must be to free ourselves....by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty" Albert Einstein

Our Humane Society started with one person who had the desire to help animals and their people in need. We need like minded individuals like yourself to help us grow so that we can answer the calls for help.  Our volunteers give hope to each and every animal in need. Join our volunteer family today!

(HSLC does not operate a physical shelter)

Spay/Neuter Clinic Transport (Snip Trip) Coordinator
We are looking for a volunteer in Loudoun County who can help to organize and run a monthly transport of cats and eventually dogs to a low cost spay/neuter clinic.  The transport van comes to the Leesburg area for pick up and return of the animals.  We are looking to expand this transport to include pets of Loudoun County Residents.    The volunteer will be assisted by the HSLC Spay/Neuter Program Manager to perform the following tasks
1.)    Establish a monthly schedule of transports to the spay/neuter clinic
2.)    Assist with building a comprehensive online sign up form and tracking system
3.)    Identify new drop off and pick up location in Loudoun County
4.)    Develop print outs for forms and carrier stickers to ensure safe tracking and transport of animals
5.)    Be on site for morning pick up and return of animals
6.)    Work with pet owners to address questions and provide schedules
7.)    Define billing process, reporting and payment collection
Time Commitment – several hours a week and 2 early weekday mornings a month
How will you make an impact in the community? – By building this program from the ground up you will be creating an opportunity for our community to make sure their pets are spayed or neutered and vaccinated at an extremely reasonable rate.  Every day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born and every year 6-8 million animals enter our shelters and nearly half are euthanized.  Spay and neuter is the only 100% effective way to prevent more unwanted litters of pets from being born.

TNR Trapper - assist with trapping feral cats and kittens for trap, neuter, return program, work with caretakers to schedule trappings, transport cats to vet appointments, trappers will work with Feral Program Coordinator to track and report on open and completed colonies, promote TNR through our communities

1.)  Assist with trapping feral cats and kittens for trap, neuter, return program
2.)  Work with assigned caretakers to schedule trappings

Transportation Volunteer - (sorry must be over the age of 21)
HSLC is in search of one or more volunteers willing to drive trapped cats in to Washington, DC for a low cost spay/neuter clinic.  The location is in Southeast DC near Nationals Stadium.  Transport is needed once a month on a Sunday.  Cats will be in traps, covered and will potentially not smell great (sorry!).  The vehicle must be a mid to large size SUV, mini—van or covered truck.  Plastic traps to be provided for safe transport.  Drop off times are at 8:30am and pickup can range from 1:00 to 4:00pm depending on surgery schedule.

Corporate Sponsor Coordinator - work with local organizations to solicit sponsorships, build win/win programs for corporate sponsors
